In 1960, the Ginsheim merchants Paul and Anna Kanbach, who ran a grocery store in Rheinstraße 8, decided to build a residential and commercial building with a grocery store for the son Arnold Schneider (son of Anna Kanbach ´'s first marriage to Georg Schneider in Italy in 1944) in order to ensure the supply of the local population. In the same year, the architect Beckenhaub from Ginsheim was commissioned to draw up a construction plan for ´ and to submit the construction application for ´. Construction could then begin on 1.2.1962. When Anna Kanbach fell ill with blood cancer in the same year and died on 14.12.1963, people thought about what should now happen to the grocery store in Mainzer Straße. Since the merchants not only ran a grocery store on Rheinstraße, but also offered their goods with a sales car in Ginsheimer Strasse, which was the company's main source of income, the architect Beckenhaub came up with the idea of converting the grocery store into a restaurant. The ‘Altrhein – Schänke’ was born! After the planning of ´ and the refurbishment phase, the restaurant was opened on Friday 21 August 1964. The company was leased until the end of 1982, on September 21, 1983, after extensive reconstruction and renovation work, the husband and wife Arnold and Erna Schneider took over the grocery store in Rheinstraße until August 3, 1983.
